Easing the way for
those who are dying
My calling is to companion to the dying, providing emotional, spiritual, and practical support for people throughout the process.
We talk about every stage of life but feel uncomfortable discussing the end stage, not just for the person experiencing it but also for family and friends. Death is a transition from the known to beyond the known.
As an end of life doula, also known as a death midwife, I create a space for a peaceful transition by assisting clients in creating a plan for an end of life experience that aligns with their values, beliefs, and personal philosophy, making sure their
desires for their last days are clearly stated and acknowledged.
My work involves helping to reduce the anxiety around death and dying and to honor death as a sacred end to the arc of life. I will talk with and especially listen
to terminally ill people in a non-judgmental way that allows them to discern
their own wants and needs as death nears.
This is a process where there is support for the dying and those around them. It permits discussion for whatever needs or fears they may have. I can do this without the emotional distress felt by loved ones or the responsibilities of hospital/hospice staff who may be on a busy schedule to primarily provide medical care to patients.
My background and education have been in spiritual formation and pastoral ministry. As a pastor I sat with the dying and their families and helped them to create meaningful funeral or memorial services. I bring an open heart and mind to my call of companioning the dying and their families. I am sensitive to the fact that each person has their own spiritual traditions and beliefs or no beliefs at all.
My Death Midwife training is certified through Earth Traditions.
I am happy to meet with you to discuss pre-planning for end of life or to arrange to attend to the needs a dying patient.
